Today's young people grow up in 'media worlds'. This implies not only that young people make full and uninhibited use of the available media but also that their experience of the world and their constructions of reality are strongly marked by the media. This makes the media a prime agent of socialization in youth and adolescence. From a pedagogic perspective, the book inquires into the media utilized by young people, the roles the media play for them in identity-formation and socialization processes, and the question of how media competency can be enhanced in youngsters.
